Letter Writing Prompt - Gardens

Each month we share a letter writing prompt to encourage you to put pen to paper more often.

A little suggestion of what you could write about, to get your creative juices flowing, and allow you to enjoy a relaxing mindful moment of writing.

August is a very special month. There is warmth and sunshine and laughter still to come, but a little less pressure than in July, when we’re rushing to embrace the arrival of summertime. There is a quiet to be found in August, a time for reflection as we approach the end of the academic year, time to recharge our batteries, and pause. And for so many of us, those quiet, mindful moments can be found outside, in the garden.

A garden can have quite a nostalgic feel for a lot of us. From memories of picking vegetables in our grandparent’s gardens, to summers spent in paddling pools, or taking day trips to heritage sites with huge, manicured landscapes, or walking through the parks of a big city, these green spaces can be a source of both comfort and creativity. Whether we have a garden at home or not, as humans we crave to see green spaces, and so finding time to visit a wild spot or even curate one yourself is a wonderful tool to relax your mind.

Perhaps this August you could write to a friend that’s very green fingered and ask for advice on how you could make your home more inviting to nature? Or maybe you could post some wildflower seeds to a neighbour, so that your street could become a welcome spot for bees and butterflies? Could you write to your local council and ask if there are any green spaces that you could volunteer in? Or perhaps you’ll just write a lovely note to someone whose garden you admire, and see how your words bring a smile to their face.
