Introducing Book Club by London Letters
What is Book Club?
Book Club by London Letters is an international pen pal club for people who enjoy books.
At its heart, it’s a space for readers and letter writers to connect - to share thoughts, recommendations, and moments of reflection through the written word. Whether you’re an avid reader or someone looking to rediscover the joy of books, this is a place to find connection through a shared interest.
How it began
Since launching our Pen Pal Club in 2019, we’ve had the privilege of connecting thousands of people across the world. Over time, one thing became clear: again and again, members spoke about their love of reading.
Bringing together letter writing and books felt like a natural next step - a way to deepen connections and offer a meaningful starting point for correspondence.
How it works
You can join Book Club on its own, or alongside our Pen Pal Club.
Once you’ve signed up, we’ll invite you to create a short Book Club profile. This includes a few details about you, as well as your reading preferences - favourite genres, books you’ve loved, and what you’re looking for in a pen pal.
Your profile is then added to our private member directory, where you can browse other members by location, age, and reading interests, and request to be introduced to anyone you’d like to connect with.
All introductions are handled by us. If both members are happy to be introduced, you’ll be connected by email, and from there, you can choose whether to exchange postal addresses and begin writing.
There’s no limit to how many people you can connect with, and no set pace for writing. Some members write regularly, others more occasionally - this is a slower, more thoughtful way of building connection.
Monthly reading (optional)
Each month, we’ll suggest an epistolary-themed book for the community.
You’re welcome to read along, but there’s no obligation - these selections are simply there to inspire your letters and introduce you to books you may not have otherwise discovered.
What makes it different?
If you’re familiar with our Pen Pal Club, you might be wondering how Book Club differs.
Think of it this way:
Pen Pal Club is open-ended - a space to write about anything and everything.
Book Club is centred around a shared love of reading.
Both offer the same core experience of connection through letters, but Book Club provides an added layer - a natural starting point for conversation, and a way to connect through common literary interests. You’re very welcome to join one or both.
A slower kind of connection
Book Club is for those who want to make a friend through the post, share book recommendations and reflections, exchange letters and small pieces of life, and step away from screens to return to something more tangible.
It’s a quieter, more intentional way of connecting - one that values time, attention, and the written word.
A safe and considered space
We take care to ensure all connections feel safe and comfortable.
No personal details are shared publicly.
All introductions are managed by us.
You are never obliged to share your address.
