What makes a postcard memorable?
As our Postcard Exchange is now live and the first few postcards have begun arriving at the studio, it's been so lovely to see the variety of styles that have come in! For those of you still yet to write yours, I've popped together some tips for anyone who might be suffering from writer's block.
Tell a small story
You don't need to write your life story! Instead, share a moment. Perhaps you've discovered a wonderful bookshop, enjoyed a walk along the coast, baked your favourite cake or spent the afternoon in your garden. Small, everyday moments often make the most enjoyable reading.
Share something about where you live
Even if you're not writing from a holiday destination, your hometown is interesting to someone else! You could mention:
- A favourite local café.
- A nearby landmark.
- A seasonal event.
- A hidden gem visitors might not know about.
It's these little details that make postcards feel personal.
Write as though you're talking to a friend
Don't worry about sounding formal or trying to write the "perfect" postcard. A warm, natural message is always appreciated. Your personality is what makes your postcard unique.
Think about the person receiving It
Before popping your postcard into the post, ask yourself:
"Would I be happy to receive this?"
The best postcards leave someone smiling, teach them something new or simply brighten their day. Keeping your recipient in mind helps make the exchange enjoyable for everyone.
